(1) Interestsubsidyprogram for maize stocking The government provided interest subsidies to maize traders and/or feed manufacturers who borrowed funds from commercial or state-owned banks to enhance liquidity, enabling them to purchase maize from farmers without pressure to rapidly release inventory to the market. The government subsidized interest at a rate of 4%
per annum, targeting 200,000 tons of maize.
(2) Creditprogramformaize stockpiling and value addition by agricultural institutions The government supported credit extension to agricultural cooperatives, farmer groups, and community enterprises involved in maize businesses and/or using it as raw material for feed production. The loans served as working capital to support the purchase, resale, and/or processing of maize to create added value.
The target was 100,000 tons.
