INSURANCE: As driverless cars evolve, demand for insurance could ultimately decrease as a result of fewer car crashes, potentially saving insurers money on payouts in the near future. In anticipation of this shift, some insurers are rolling out usage-based insurance policies.
AUTO REPAIRS: As cars become increasingly connected and software-dependent, drivers could gain more insight into the repairs they need. The information could allow them to calibrate preventive maintenance and avoid more expensive repairs down the line.
PROFESSIONAL DRIVING: Telematics technology could enable taxi and trucking companies to manage self-driving fleets that would provide services and run their routes with optimal efficiency.
HOTELS: The proliferation of driverless cars could cut into another big portion of hotels’ customer bases: those who opt for a single-night stay at a roadside motel while driving from one place to another.
AIRLINES: As autonomous vehicles make car travel more convenient, many people might choose to take a driverless on-demand ride for shorter trips instead of going through the many hassles of air travel.
AUTO PARTS: Traditional parts manufacturers will likely face competition from more technology-focused companies.
RIDE-HAILING: While ride-hailing companies may not have to pay drivers anymore in a driverless future, they would likely have to shoulder the costs of owning cars - a burden presently held by third-party contractors.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Driverless fleets will be able to service out-of-the-way locations that are presently ignored by fixed-route public transportation. This could allow more people to move to the suburbs without sacrificing all of the mobility associated with urban living.
PARKING GARAGES & LOTS: In some major American cities, parking spaces take one- third of the land, and owners of these spaces will either have to reshape them in a way that creates value in a driverless world or sell their properties to someone who will.
