CROWNED TAG CHAMPS
The Auckland Rugby League Intermediate Tag
Champion of Champions tournament was held on
Friday April 8 at Cornwall Park.
After winning their respective zones, Glen Eden
Intermediate, Marina View School, Wesley
Intermediate, Kowhai Intermediate, Sir Edmund Hillary
Middle School, Northcross Intermediate and Pt
England School qualified for the champion of
champions round.
The support from spectators was admirable.
Five rounds of pool play later and Kowhai Intermediate ARL school’s development officer Mary Passi said the
went up against a strong Glen Eden side in the girls
section.
Glen Eden also made the finals against Wesley in the
boys section.
Following two fantastic finals, Kowhai Intermediate
came out on top winning the champ of champs
tournament for the girls section and Wesley for the
boys.
The NZ Warriors One Community Team, Jerome
Ropati, Georgia Hale and Junior Paunga paid a visit to
see the schools in action.
They awarded the tag champs with a Warriors bag full
of goodies and took home an Auckland Rugby League
trophy and history book for their school.
tag tournament’s have been a huge hit with schools.
“The kids really enjoy the sport and you can see the
talent they have out on the fields - it’s wicked,” she says.
“Im looking forward to seeing them again for the
Intermediate Rugby League Tournament in term 3.”
