        Commencement Awards
        Special Awards are presented to those students who excel in service, leadership, and clinical excellence.
        To be considered for an award, students must prepare a portfolio documenting the following:
           •  Committee Work
           •  Written Reflective Statement
           •  Incorporation of Evidence-Based Practice

        Award recipients are determined based on the scores received from the Portfolio Committee.

        * Graduating with Honors – Students of the graduating class wearing white cords are graduating with
        Honors. Honors are conferred upon candidates earning an Associate Degree who have achieved a
        cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.


        Graduating with Academic Distinction – Students of the Bachelor of  Science in Health Sciences
        and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs wearing bronze, silver, or gold cords are graduating with
        Academic Distinction.  These distinctions are conferred upon candidates with a cumulative GPA of at least
        3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

        §  Summa Cum Laude (gold cords) 3.9+
        ‡  Magna Cum Laude (silver cords) 3.7+
        £  Cum Laude (bronze cords) 3.5+

        Φ Phi Theta Kappa – Membership is offered to individuals who have earned 12 semester hours of
        Associate Degree coursework and maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0
        scale.  Phi Theta Kappa membership is signified by gold honor stoles.

        א Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI)– Chi Rho Chapter membership is by invitation to baccalaureate
        and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and to nurse leaders exhibiting
        exceptional achievements in nursing. To be eligible for induction BSN senior nursing students must have
        a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale as well as be in the top 35 percent of their
        class, and have completed half of their nursing coursework.
