FAMILY, FRIENDS, FELLOWSHIP, FUN
A FUN-FILLED FAMILY DAY
On August 19, 2023, Lions and supporters from Brooklyn & Queens were blessed with
perfect weather. Under the new leadership of DG Antonio Robles, we celebrated the
beginning of the Lionistic year with families and friends at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens,
New York.
Special guests included Lion Donarie Fenton, Chairperson for the District Breast Cancer
Committee, and representatives from The American Cancer Society, who distributed
educational literature to raise awareness about breast cancer. New York State Senator
th
Leroy Comrie, (14 Senatorial District of Queens) and a Charter Member of St. Albans
Lions Club stopped by to thank the Lions for choosing Roy Wilkins Park to celebrate this
community event. He stated that the park was recently renovated and now has full-time
park police and other Parks Department maintenance staff.
The children and the adults participated in various games and sports led by Lion
Rayboyd Stennett and his assistant, Lion Sandrina Kingston. Activities included lime and
spoon races, tennis, soccer, kite flying, hula hoop dancing, and a limbo dance
competition, which was a big hit. It was such a beautiful but hilarious sight to see the
while their canes/
“seniors” dance under the limbo stick to the rhythm of “Limbo Rock”
All winners were presented with medals and gifts by District Governor Antonio Robles.
KUDOS TO LION KEITH OCTOBER!!!
There were approximately 300 individuals at the picnic, and Lion Keith ensured that the
park remained clean throughout the day. There were various tasty dishes and cold
drinks, wonderful fellowship, much laughter, and awesome dance music supplied by DJ
“Aubrey.” District Governor Antonio showed off his special moves as he danced at the
head of the moving conga line and belted the call, “Follow the Leader.” The Lions did
not hesitate to follow their new leader.
District Governor Antonio thanked the planning committee and the participants for a
memorable day. He encouraged all to unite as we serve our community and each other.
Lion Adina Callendar, Campaign Manager, Lion Maureen Thomas, Event Chairperson, and
Lion Shirley Alexander-Carmino, Committee Co-Chair expressed their gratitude to all the
generous contributors.
