     Racking bend
  Use this bend to join a thin or flexible rope to a heavier or stiffer one, which might otherwise
  tend to capsize and spill the lighter line.
  Make a bight in the weightier or stiffer rope. Pass the working end of the lighter line through the
  bight (1) and commence a series of figure-eight “racking” turns, weaving in and out of the bight
  (2). Pull each turn snugly tight before going on to the next. Finish by tucking the end beneath a
  convenient part of itself (3) and pulling the knot up tight (4).
