A Glimpse into the Life of Christian
Future King of Denmark, as He Celebrates His 18th Birthday
EUROPE is preparing for a new generation of royals who
will one day ascend to thrones and grace the pages of the
media. This future seems to be written in a predominantly
feminine script. The recent 18th birthday celebration of
Christian of Denmark, the firstborn of Federico and Mary
Donaldson, marks an extraordinary milestone.
As the spotlight shines on future queens like Leonor of
Spain, Amalia of the Netherlands, Isabel of Belgium, Estela
of Sweden, and Ingrid of Norway, a wave of female monarchs
is set to rule across the European continent. Only the United
Kingdom and Luxembourg, with their slightly older princes,
and the small realms of Liechtenstein and Monaco, under
the rule of José and Jaime respectively, will continue to have
male monarchs. This convergence of reigning queens in
European history makes it a truly unique and historic era.
Christian is one of the few young princes who will wear a
crown in the future, amidst this predominantly female land-
scape. Queen Margarita has decided to throw a grand cele-
bration for his birthday today, although the young Count of
Monpezat does not yet have an official role.
Unlike some of his counterparts, like Amalia of the
Netherlands or Spain’s own Leonor, Christian is not consid-
ered an heir to the throne. His parents, Federico of Denmark
and Mary Donaldson, have always shielded him from media
attention, to the extent that he remains relatively unknown

receiving a state allowance until he turns 21, allowing him
to focus on his studies. Nonetheless, this weekend, the eyes
of all Europe are on Christian.
Unveiling the Future King
The true essence of this future king remains shrouded in
mystery, as very little is known about his preferences.
Common knowledge suggests his enthusiasm for foot-
ball; he has been spotted at Danish national team matches,
donning a football jersey on occasion. In 2023, he obtained
his driver’s license and has generally been a well-behaved
son. Unlike some other young royals, his life has been largely
discreet. He made history as the first member of the Danish
monarchy to attend a public nursery and school. The only
scandal that brushed against him was related to revelations
of sexual abuse at the secondary school he was attending,
leading to his immediate removal from the institution.
Recent rumors linked Princess Leonor of Spain to some of
her fellow cadets during a reception at the Royal Palace
following the October 12th parade. Christian, on the other
hand, was previously associated with Chiara of Bourbon-Two
Sicilies a few months ago. This connection was downplayed
as a lifelong friendship, although the daughter of the Duke
of Castro stated that “she didn’t see herself as a queen yet.”
To mark the occasion, a grand celebration is set to take place
at 5:00 PM, where 200 young Danes will join the various
royal families in attendance. Notable guests include Victoria
of Sweden, Haakon of Norway accompanied by his daughter
Ingrid, and Isabel of Belgium. All of them serve as godpar-
ents to Christian, along with Pablo of Greece, among others.
Notably, the absence of more crowned heads can be attrib-
uted to Christian’s status as a non-heir.
