for new foundation
SAVANETA – May 18th and 19th the depart-
ment of sports at the Dutch marines barracks in
Savaneta organized the 26th ‘Round of Aruba’
which is the biggest sport event on the island.
The event enhances a 72 kilometer running
competition that can be completed individu-
ally, in duo’s or with a team of four. The ben-
efits of this event are donated to a good cause
and this year the merit went to the Foundation
Friends of the Sport Centre San Nicolas,
President of the foundation, Shaïra Laclé, re-
cently received the donation out of hands of
the organizers of the event, Sym and Sebas-
tiaan. Treasurer Rayron Thiel and Secretary
Paul Vlaar were present too. The donated
amount was 2.500 florin. The foundation’s goal
is to help underprivileged children in san Nico-
las and surroundings to be able to participate
in sports. The extra activities and support that
the sport center itself cannot offer are supple-
mented by the aid of the foundation. Laclé
explains: “We are aiming for the Sport Centre
to be the heart of the neighborhood, focusing
on sports, exercise and coaching. Our foun-
dation wishes to support the Sport Centre to
achieve this goal. With this extra help from the
marines we can help more underprivileged
children to experience what sport can bring
you: joy, discipline, health, friendship and so-
cial behavior. We say: the youth is our future.”
The first Ronde van Aruba (70 KM) was com-
