Israel Declares War Against Hamas

ON October 7, 2023, Israel declared war against
Hamas, a Palestinian militant organization.

This comes after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel
earlier, which killed about 250 people, mostly civilians.
The attack involved rocket strikes on Israeli cities and towns,
including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa. The rockets caused

significant damage to property and infrastructure, resulting
in many civilian deaths and thousands more injured, including
children and the elderly.

The Israeli military responded to the attack with a series of
airstrikes on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The airstrikes
also caused significant damage and resulted in the deaths of
several Hamas militants.

The Israeli government stated that the war would continue
until Hamas could no longer launch attacks on Israel. The
declaration of war by Israel is a significant escalation of the

conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. It also indicates
that Israel is determined to end Hamas’ rocket attacks.

The United Nations Security Council has called for an imme-

diate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. However, whether
either side is willing to comply with the ceasefire call is
unclear.
It is hoped that the international community will continue to

work to de-escalate the conflict and prevent further blood-
shed.
