Pre-Procedure Prep

 Identify patient. Explain procedure to patient/caregiver.
Adhere to Standard Precautions.
 Perform hand hygiene.
 Verify primary care provider orders for drainage
frequency.
 Perform patient assessment, including vital signs, pulse
oximetry and respiratory assessment
 Prepare materials for procedure.
 To remove old dressing:

• Apply clean gloves.
• Remove old dressing.
• Discard dressing in waste bag.
