                             Dressing Change—PICC, Tunneled Catheter, Implanted Port*

                               Transparent dressing change once a week or as needed for
                                 excessive drainage or excessive perspiration (use occlusive gauze
                                 dressing in place of transparent dressing).
                               Gauze dressing must be changed more frequently (every 3 days) and
                                 as needed.
                               Wash hands.
                               Don sterile gloves.
                               Utilize sterile technique.
                               Clean site antisepsis with chlorhexidine.
                               Clean skin for 30 seconds using back and forth motion and apply
                                 pressure to create friction that will remove skin bacteria.
                               Allow skin to dry.
                               Apply transparent dressing over central line catheter site or over non-
                                 coring needle (implanted port).
