After having a blood or blood product transfusion, patients may experience some physical reactions or
common symptoms. Here are some expressions useful for nurses to assess patient .
Present Simple Tense
a. Asking for ongoing conditions
How are you feeling right now?
"Are you feeling any different than before the transfusion?"
"Do you feel any itching or tingling on your skin?"
"Do you feel dizzy or nauseous at the moment?"
b. Asking about ongoing sensations
"Are you experiencing any discomfort/ itching/ rash/ shortness of breath in your chest?"
"Do you notice any unusual warmth in your body?"
"Are you feeling short of breath or having trouble breathing?"
"Do you feel any heaviness in your legs or arms/ dizziness/ chill/ discomfort?"
Present Perfect Tense
Asking about experiences or changes since the transfusion began
Have you noticed any redness/ swelling/ rash on your skin?
Have you felt more tired than usual since the transfusion?
Have you felt any changes or discomfort in your body after the transfusion?
