Page 23 - MODUL INTERACTING AT CAMPUS
P. 23
In order to maintain a good communication, it’s important for the students to note some other
common questions for introduction. Here are some questions students typically ask each other
when they have just met.
Three typical question areas are: i) where you are from, ii) where you are living on campus or in
town, iii) which courses you have signed up for. It is important not just to ask the question, but
also to comment on the answer or ask a follow-up question.
Here are three example conversations - they should be read vertically not horizontally.
Q :So where are you from? Q : So are you living on campus? Q : So what other courses have you
A : From Estonia. A : No, actually I am sharing a signed up for?
flat with some friends. A: Statistical analysis, sustainability
economics.
Q:Pardon my ignorance but Q : Oh really. So you are living in Q : Wow, I’m doing exactly the
where is that exactly? town? same.
A: Eastern Europe near Russia. A : Yes, how about you? A : We’ll be seeing a lot of each
And you? other.
Now, write some other possible follow-up questions to keep the conversation going. Share it with
your partners, and make a conversation as above.
