8       SPEAKING: Becoming a seller and a buyer


                    Group  Work:  Role  Play.  Make  a  shopping  conversation  dialogue  using  the  information  of
                    shopping lists below (Choose one). Each group consists of 3 or 4 students.

                      Student one becomes the customer, student two becomes the shop assistant, and student
                        three can become the cashier.
                      Do not forget to decide the price of each item.

                    A.  Pay attention to the explanation about ‘guessing meaning from context’. Then, practice the
                        exercise.


                                Guessing meaning from context
                              When you try to guess meaning of an unknown word, use the text surrounding the
                                word so that you will understand the context.
                                Try to guess the meaning of vendors in this sentence:
                                Before we buy a product that we want, we should find information about the vendors.
                                There are vendors with either good or bad reputations.

                              You can guess from the sentence “There are vendors with either good or bad

                                reputations” that vendors means the store that sells the product.
