            examples  of  recombinaon  occurs  during  meiosis  I  (specifically,  during
            prophase I), when homologues line up in pairs and exchange segments of DNA
            during crossing over. Crossing-over allows alleles on DNA molecules to change
            posions from one homologous chromosome segment to another, resulng in
            gametes  with  new  combinaons  of  genes.  This  process  helps  maximize  the
            genec diversity of any offspring that results from the eventual union of two
            gametes during sexual reproducon.
