the String Doll Story: 2018 Catalog, Volume 1
the Moral of the Story:
Please Don’t throw this
Catalog away in 2019
Once upon a time, in the year 2005, there
were just 16 characters in the String Doll
Gang. They all lived happily on a single-
sided line sheet that we gave to potential
new customers. Life was simple and all of
the dolls had plenty of space.
As more string dolls were born, we
moved them to a bigger abode: a double-
sided line sheet. When the string doll
family continued to grow, we were able
to keep them in this same space by using
smaller and smaller product pictures.
Finally, in 2010, when the pictures
couldn’t get any smaller and our product
line grew to include more than just string
dolls, we graduated to a 12-page catalog
and included a representative of all of our
products on the front cover.
Since then, our yearly catalog has
grown to 20 pages and has had a familiar
look, with the newest string dolls taking
over pole position on page 2, followed in
numerical order by the now more senior
string dolls. When we decided to focus
our energies on our best-selling and most-
beloved product, string dolls, our other
products were each given a half page of
space, followed by a quarter page of space,
followed by almost no space at all.
Now 2018, and with close to 300
string doll characters, we decided it was
time to retire more than 50 dolls whom
we love like family but who don’t sell as
quickly as the others. In an effort to save
time, money, and resources, we also de-
cided that this year’s catalog will be titled
Volume 1, and that we will supplement
this volume in future years with 4-page
catalogs.
To make a long story short, please
don’t throw this catalog away at the end
of 2018, but if you forget this tale and toss
it by mistake, or if you need another
Volume 1 Catalog down the road when
yours becomes tattered from overuse, we
will happily send you a new one!
