Understanding the Software Development Life Cycle — IT Certificate

            Summary

Internal audit’s involvement in an IT project increases the likelihood that the project will be
successful; this in turn, is of great benefit to the entire organization. Internal audit’s involvement
allows internal auditors to proactively mitigate risks that might otherwise be very costly to the
organization. It is important that all involved have a clear understanding of an internal auditor’s role
in an IT project. An internal auditor may operate in an assurance, consultative, or mixed role; and
each determined role will help them to develop the appropriate processes and identify risks.

This course introduced four methodologies for an SDLC, including the ten phases of the waterfall
method. You should now be comfortable with the process that an IT project goes through, as well as
who the stakeholders are and what their responsibilities include. Finally, the course covered
common criteria of successful IT projects, and those that often cause failure.
