ees she saw working at company Z testifies that afternoon as the last witness for the plaintiff. The de-
fendant’s testimony will begin the following day. Her client’s attorney is again approached about a set-
tlement — this time a reasonable offer — but her client smells victory and won’t even consider it.

The defense concludes testimony by its witnesses by the afternoon of the following day, at which time
her client’s attorney files a motion for judgment as a matter of law. The judge agrees that there is no le-
gally sufficient evidentiary basis for the jury to find for the defense and grants the motion. The jury is
               dismissed.

The judgment calls for payment of $500,000, plus court costs and attorney’s fees, which is later negoti-
ated to $400,000, plus court costs and attorney’s fees, plus transfer of the defendant’s ownership in
               company A to Betty’s client.

Moreover, in the best compliment of all, Betty is contacted by the opposing attorney who wants to hire
her as an expert witness in another case.
