Neutral Pressure Plane
• A theoretical concept- not constant in time or place
• The greater the temperature difference between the outdoor
temperature and the indoor temperature, the greater the stack effect.
• The leakier the house, the more air flow through the house due to
stack effect.
• But somewhere in between the bottom and the top of the house the
pressure is exactly the same as outside or neutral.. This neutral
“layer” is called the “Neutral Pressure Plane”
• Pascal’s Law a change in pressure at any point in an enclosed
fluid is transmitted equally throughout the fluid.
