SEA AND BE SEEN
Our choice of luxury yachts to charter with your inner circle
Ever since we watched the third act of Tenet at the drive-in last fall, we’ve had our heart set on a luxury yacht rental for our first big vacation at the end of all of this. (Of course, we’ll take our getaway without all that convo- luted time travel business, please.) Our top contender is Burgess Yacht’s Alfa Nero, a 270-footer that sleeps 12 in six cabins, with each of the guest suites colour-coordinated right down to the cushions. Apart from the gen- erous deck spaces — after all, where do you really want to be on a yacht if not directly under the beaming sun? — the elegant vessel boasts one de- sign detail that we especially connect with: a swimming pool floor that ris- es up to convert to an evening dance floor. Consider it perfect for burning off a year’s worth of pent-up energy. €812,000/week
 A portable table lamp
Partly to keep pace with the unpre- dictability of modern life — and partly just because designers hate unsightly cables — wireless table lamps with rechargeable batteries have become the latest domestic status symbol to step into the spotlight. Putting a 21st-cen- tury spin on the classic oil lantern, the charming Arca Portable, designed by Philippe Malouin for New York-based brand Matter, is ready to move from workday desktop decor to dinner ta- ble centrepiece. And especially after a long period of not being able to go much of anywhere, it’s nice to discover something so nomadic. Best of all, it can even be disassembled and packed flat for easy transport — perfect for post-sunset picnics. $275 USD
 Design & Travel
Maybe architect Richard Neutra (rest his soul) isn’t available to draw up sketches for your kitchen remodel — but that doesn’t mean you can’t still turn to him for a little advice. New coffee table tome Life Meets Art offers a look inside the homes of famous creative forces like Henry Moore, Agatha Christie, and Marc Jacobs. Anyone who’s
ever felt curious about how architects tackle their own spaces will find plenty of fun escapism. And while radical moves like the five-storey atrium in architect Norman Foster’s living room may be beyond your own ambitions, they might still spark some ideas about possible furniture selections or colour schemes. $80

  DRAMATIC PERFORMANCE
Behold: a new destination worth visiting in person as soon as possible
The birthplace of not only Justin Bieber but also countless productions of Shakespearean classics, Stratford, Ontario, has long specialized in great stage presence. Now, finally, the town is about to have a performance venue whose architecture does its storied reputation justice. Named for the man who established the city’s Shakespeare Festival, the new Tom Patterson Theatre brings contemporary to the performing arts. Credit for its grand design goes to Toronto architecture firm Hariri Pontarini, which has delivered an undulating glass and bronze form that mimics the ripples of the Avon River — and proves architecture can be just as evocative as a historic sonnet. We’re not saying it will make intermission the highlight of Romeo and Juliet, but we will posit that it’s going to make the perfect way to usher in the return of the performing arts in style. Stay tuned for its grand opening when Stratford’s new season kicks off — with careful safety measures — this summer.
