  ARE HAPPY, HEALTHY
EMPLOYEES BETTER
WORKERS?
In 2019, the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School studied telesales workers at British Telecom.
The study assessed happiness by simple measures such as the weather outside the office. (Who isn’t in a better mood on a bright, sunny day?) It discovered that happy employees are about 13% more effective; specifically, more conversions and more calls per hour. They also followed their schedules more closely. As this study shows, cheerful employees increase sales because interacting with a happy person makes you happier. Thus, satisfied employees make for delighted customers, and an improved company reputation.
A different study by the University of Warwick found that happy people are about 12% more productive. In this study, they looked at the impact of showing comedy before a work shift. (Maybe we should all start our day with a silly video?)
Simple productivity improvements come without sacrificing quality, and without increasing the time people spend working. In other words, happy people get more done in less time. And while you can’t control the weather, you can control other factors which affect people’s moods.
