The fundamental focus of English 9 - Composition builds upon the elements of literature and composition through concurrent instruction of vocabulary, grammar and usage, and reading for meaning. The course will be dedicated to developing the skills of literature comprehension and analysis, and writing, especially in the areas of argumentative, expository, and research-based composition. Students will read a variety of fiction and nonfiction works, developing skills and strategies to extract the author's meaning and purpose. Students will continue to develop the skills necessary to reach high achievement levels on the Literature Keystone Exam and other forms of standardized testing, as well as preparing them for college or career readiness.
PREREQUISITE: Students must have successfully completed English 8.
