Introduction to Elements and 850 9-12 1 0.5 Principles of Design
This semester course is centered on the development of an understanding of the principles of design and the elements of art. Fundamental skills in pencil, watercolor, charcoal, tempera, pen and ink, pastels, acrylics and various materials are emphasized. A variety of three-dimensional materials are used to increase interest, to develop skills and to stimulate creative thinking.
Fundamentals of Drawing 855 9-12 1 0.5
This semester course introduces students to classical and contemporary drawing techniques and concepts, with emphasis on the understanding of its formal language and the fundamentals of artistic expression. Students will develop observational abilities and rendering skills in this introduction to the fine art of drawing. Students will be introduced to methods of describing objects in terms of line, value, shape and texture. Course assignments help to explore the principles of light, space, composition, and perspective using a variety of drawing media and techniques. PREREQUISITE: Student must have all of the following:
● Elements & Principles of Design.
Fundamentals of Drawing II 838 10-12 1 0.5
This semester course is designed to enhance and expand the classical and contemporary drawing techniques learned in Fundamentals of Drawing. Advanced drawing techniques such as stippling, hatching, cross-hatching, and scumbling will be incorporated into a variety of multimedia projects including pen & ink, charcoal, and pastels. Using advanced drawing skills and techniques to make an ordinary drawing appear three dimensional is the goal. Students should take this course before proceeding to Art IV or A.P. Art unless advised by an art teacher.
PREREQUISITE: Student must have all of the following:

Fundamentals of Painting 834 10-12 1 0.5
This semester course introduces students to classical and contemporary painting techniques and concepts with emphasis on the understanding of its formal language and the fundamentals of artistic expression. Painting from still-life, landscape, realism, and various painting styles will be explored. Color theory, linear perspective, compositional structure, figure/ground relationships, visual perception, spatial concepts, and critical thinking skills will be emphasized. We will study and research major painting styles and movements in art history.
PREREQUISITE: Student must have all of the following:

Contemporary Design 836 10-12 1 0.5
This semester course is designed to help anyone interested in learning more about modern and contemporary art. In this course, you will explore a variety of art media and techniques as well as modern design concepts. Through a variety of resources, videos, slideshows, readings, and activities, you will be exposed to contemporary art while doing a variety of multimedia projects reflecting modern art trends.
