Why 3 Volumes ?
DfiD failed to make itself relevant to the ordinary person, the ‘public’, the people who elect
the politicians who make the decisions. DfiD was not fit for purpose.
FCDO is a creation based on an ism. It was never ever going to be ‘fit for purpose. It is
simply the wrong vehicle for the job.
It is possible to multiply the effectiveness of UK International Aid. But it needs a more
visionary approach. And an approach that sidesteps all the isms.
‘Making UK Aid more effective’ sets out some of the strands that we should be brave
enough to think about doing.
