EVACUATION PLAN
POLICY
HOPESS assures that an evacuation path is conspicuously posted on each hallway of the
facility/residence and develops and maintains a disaster and evacuation plan that will ensure that all
residents and staff members are safe during an emergency.
PROCEDURE
In all emergency situations, the first and foremost consideration must be for the safety of the people at the
HOPESS site. Except where otherwise instructed, when an emergency is discovered by or reported to a
staff member, that staff member is responsible for immediately calling 911 to report the situation. After
the emergency number has been called, the Executive Director or designee should be contacted. The
Executive Director is responsible for answering any media inquiries.
EVACUATION PLAN
Should evacuation be necessary before a 911 call can be made, the call will be made from another office
or the nearest telephone. Exit from the office should be made by way of the nearest available of the two
doors. If there is a child or handicapped person on site, the Executive Director or designee will ensure that
assistance is given to that person to exit the building.
ASSEMBLY POINT
If an evacuation is necessary, all staff and residents will meet at their designated meeting points.
3338 W Kings Ave Phoenix AZ 85053 – Meet directly across the street from the front door.
If time permits before evacuation, and safety is not threatened:
Close all file cabinets
Lock resident files
Turn off all electrical equipment
Close, but do not lock, all interior doors
Take only personal possessions before leaving the building
When emergency personnel arrive, staff will allow them to take control of the situation and give them all
the information and cooperation they request. If the evacuation has been ordered, no staff may re-enter the
building until permission given by emergency personnel.
