What Mr. Wood didnt know was that in 1946 I had had a call

to mine, but located in Puerto Rico for the Caribbean Command, was
available. The base salary would be the same, but a 25 percent foreign

Jean was a surprised as I was at the deferral of the move to New

In Lisbon we were driven in a bus to a seaside suburb (Estoril),
which reminded me a great deal of Berkeley. The streets were lined
