Holmes was a Counselor to Bishop Solomon and Bishop Beesley for
nd
17 years in the 22 Ward. Grandfather was rather reserved, but when
Laurine as a little girl would leave Mother and Dad in the audience and
go up on the stand to sit on Grandfathers lap, he was perfectly happy
with such arrangement, even though it was highly unusual.
My sister Ruth was born between June and Sam. Mother told me
that Ruth had been very weak and she apparently died within 24 hours
of her birth.
My sister June was the sweetest sister a boy could wish for. My
parents, Laurine and Edge were all busy people who might be away from
home. At such times, June always tended for Sam, Gord and me. She
always treated us with love and kindness despite the fact that we were
three active young boys who werent always obedient or kind.
My brother Sam was my big brother. He was very bright in
school and was promoted at least one year ahead of his age group. Sam
took piano lessons and also sang. As I grew up one of my ambitions was
to wrestle him to the ground and rub his nose in it, since he had always
been able to outwrestle me. (Eventually, at about age 15, I was able to
defeat him in wrestling but when I had done it once I lost all interest in
doing it again).

tremely well. Gord was always a happy, cheerful kid. He was extremely
well-liked by his classmates. I recall that in a typical class of thirty kids
we would send Valentines Day cards to six or eight kids in our class
and would receive about the same number. I recall that one year in grade
school Gord received a card from every kid in the class.
