oil on his car. If the County Road Commissioner was Republican, of
course, the favor was returned by oiling the day before the Democrats
held their big event.
Mom and Dad loved these events and renewed acquaintanceship
with scores of friends that attended. Dad had an unusual capacity for
making friends. He always had a story or a joke to tell. Even his political
opponents liked Dad personally. I never knew him to lose a friend.
