MR WILLIAMS: A MESSAGE FROM THE TUTOR
I have been teaching IGCSE and A Level Biology for over 10 years in the independent sector. After acquiring a 2.1 bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology I moved on to the University of Oxford Education Department based in Norham Gardens where I followed an intensive series of lectures and seminars for teacher training which also involved working in local Oxfordshire schools. Since completion of the postgraduate teacher training (PGCE) I have worked in the secondary independent sector teaching science to younger students, as well as IGCSE and A Level Biology across the ability range.
I have extensive one-to-one tutoring experience, and I believe it is important to understand the student’s personal goals and to get to know their strengths and weaknesses, thus ensuring I can identify the key areas for improvement.
I have examined for AQA and Edexcel so I have a good understanding of how examination questions are posed and assessed. Over the years I have become experienced in coaching students to maximise the number of marks they can acquire through a methodical approach to reading, interpreting and answering questions, particularly in IGCSE and Biology A Level.
I believe in making Biology relevant to the pupils I teach. I strive to ensure that they can understand and make sense of the world around them. I am still fascinated by the subject and try to foster the same enthusiasm in the young people I teach.
Being approachable and friendly helps me to create a purposeful learning environment while still maintaining high expectations of the students in my care. This allows me to support students as best I can, to enable them to fulfil their potential.
As a football and cricket coach I am keen to encourage the values of discipline, focus and hard work on the sports field, ensuring it is enjoyed by all in the best sporting spirit. I still regularly play football and cricket and played throughout my youth and time at university. I am also a keen rugby fan and a Harlequins season ticket holder.
I look forward to assisting pupils of science and more specifically Biology IGCSE and A Level through a stable tuition programme online through PTC's professional teaching platform, in order to boost attainment and achieve the best results for tutees.
