Air Law

                1.9 Private Pilot License

This section of aviation law is an excerpt from EASA regulations on certification.

We recommend that you visit the EASA website here to see the details and

learn about the structure of the regulations under EASA.

As a private pilot there are different certificates one can obtain:

                  - PPL(A) – Private Pilot License Aeroplane – for single-engine land aircraft
                  - LAPL(A) – Light Aeroplane Pilot License – for single-engine land aircraft

                  - UL – Ultralight License for ultra-light aircraft

                  - SPL – Sailplane Pilot License

                  - SPL with TMG – Sailplane License with Touring Motor Glider endorsement

                  - PPL(H) – Private Pilot License Helicopter – for helicopters

                  - LAPL(H) – Light Aeroplane Pilot License – for helicopters

This book focuses on the theory for PPL(A) and LAPL(A) (and UL).

                1.9.1 PPL(A) and LAPL(A)

PPL(A) and LAPL(A) are basic training programs that allow you to fly a single-

engine land aircraft with a piston engine or a TMG (Touring Motor Glider).

Although there is a lot that applies to both certificate types, there are also some

differences, both in terms of certification requirements and rights once the

certificate is obtained. Therefore, we have chosen to discuss the two certificate

                types separately.
