Air Law

When moving around a busy airport in an aircraft, it is equally important to

know all runway and taxiway markings, as well as all signs. There has been
significant loss of life due to aircraft taxiing onto runways without realizing it.

                  - If edge markings and centerline markings are yellow, you are on a taxiway.

                  - If edge markings are white and centerline markings are also white, you are

                      on a runway!

If you are lost on an airport, call up and inform them, then taxi to the nearest

                taxiway or follow instructions.

The runway signs and markings you need to know as a private pilot are listed

below and on the next pages.

A runway marking like this yellow one indicates a

                division between the "NON-MOVEMENT and
MOVEMENT AREA". If you park behind this line, your

aircraft should be safe from being struck by the wings

                of a taxiing aircraft.

The sign with "A" indicates that you are on taxiway A.

This sign may be part of a group of signs, as shown below.

Here is a system of taxiways. If you imagine
taxiing from the bottom up, you can see that A

continues diagonally up to the right.

You can also see that you cross taxiway C, which

is located both to the right and left of taxiway A.

The sign, which is shown to the left of the marked
waiting position, has the "you are on A" symbol.
