It is important to scan the horizon for other aircraft regularly. Especially if there

is gliding, you need to be alert.

One moment you can briefly see the aircraft. The next moment it is gone!

Below is a way to scan the horizon.

Scan in steps of about 20 degrees. Focus briefly on the instruments. After a few
seconds, turn your attention to the next area, where you also scan for about 2

seconds.

In this way, the entire field of vision is scanned. It takes about 20 seconds to

scan 180 degrees. It is important to focus on distant objects and to scan up and

down the field of vision.

Remember to focus on things that are out on the horizon, such as a cloud, as

you are otherwise likely to focus your vision on things close to the aircraft (a

few meters in front of the aircraft!).

2.5.4 Hearing

The ear can detect both the frequency and intensity of sound, as well as the

direction the sound comes from (if both ears are functional).

Hearing is more important than one might initially think.
