Human Performance

If you are sleep-deprived, a so-called PowerNab can be beneficial.

A PowerNab is a short and strategic nap of 10-30 minutes, which aims to

recharge the body and brain without disrupting the natural sleep rhythm. It

provides a quick energy boost and improves cognitive functions such as
attention, concentration and memory, without feeling groggy or tired when you

                wake up.

                2.6.6.3 Food and fluids

Make sure you have eaten enough before the flight begins. Make sure in

particular that your glucose levels are at their peak. Take something with you,

preferably a banana, in case you get hungry.

It is also very important that you have consumed enough fluids to avoid heat

stress. Especially if you are performing glider flying for many hours in a row in
the summer, you risk getting heat stress because of dehydration.

Also make sure that you can get rid of your excess body fluids.

                2.6.6.4 Emotions

Emotions such as anger and excitement, or if your thoughts revolve around

stressful situations, including general excitement after arguments, brings you

out of balance. Stay on the ground until you are balanced again.

                2.6.6.5 Motion sickness

Some people are sensitive to motion sickness. These people may have difficulty

flying. Slow acclimatization in calm weather can gradually solve the problem for

                most people.

It is not unusual for new flight students to vomit after their first few flights.

Motion sickness is caused by the information from the eyes not matching the

information from the balance apparatus in the ear.

The autonomic system thinks the body is poisoned – and so you vomit.
