Identifying unpredictable threats requires broad knowledge to foresee what

could happen and is therefore largely based on transferable skills. The impact

of unpredictable threats can be reduced through the use of procedures.

2.8.1.6 Errors

An error is defined as an action or lack of action that leads to a deviation from

expected performance.

The result is a reduced safety margin, increasing the risk of a dangerous

situation.

Errors may include:

- Errors in handling the aircraft

- Procedural errors

- Communication errors

- Lack of knowledge

- Errors in operational decisions

Errors are actions that lead to deviations in execution/safety. These can be

deviations performed with or without intent!

Examples include:

- The plan is correct, but execution fails due to inattention, resulting in the

omission of things, procedures, etc.

- The plan is correct, and the desire to do the right thing is present, but

memory fails, causing parts to be skipped.

- Incorrect plan due to rule-based or knowledge-based errors.

- Deviation from normal procedures – intentionally.
