Principles of flight

Flaps may only be used in the “white” arc of the airspeed indicator. The aircraft

stalls at a lower speed, but also at a lower angle of attack when flaps are used.

When you fold out the flaps, you get a larger angle of attack, which means that

the wing stalls at a lower angle of attack compared to the basic profile.

5.4.4.2 Side effects of using flaps

When the flaps are extended, the conditions change so that the nose of the

aircraft pitches up or down. You then must trim the aircraft to get the nose of

the aircraft back into the correct position.

When overshooting:

- full throttle

- safe speed

- flaps to take off setting

- climb with V X until obstacle passed

- at safe height flaps up

5.4.4.3 Slots and slats

Slots/slats are

mounted on the wing

leading edges.

The purpose is to

provide a greater angle

of attack before stall

occurs.
