                If the static inlet is blocked by ice or something else, there are usually alternative

                inlets, e.g. from the cabin. If this were not the case, the altimeter and variometer

                would remain in the positions they had when the inlet was blocked.




                Here you can see a schematic diagram of the pitot-static system.























                PS.

                Now it says "dynamic pressure inlet", but you also get the static pressure in the pitot tube, and
                if  you  were  to  be  completely  correct,  it  should  be  called  "total  pressure".  In  the  airspeed
                indicator, the pressure can is surrounded by static pressure, so the instrument will let this

                correspond to the part of the pressure from the pitot tube that is static pressure, and then you
                have the dynamic pressure left.

                The aircraft's speed is measured with an airspeed indicator.
