This wonderful day is a celebration of love. The
day to celebrate romance.
On this day an imaginary Cupid goes around
shooting love arrows into the hearts of those
who will soon fall in love.
The sound of love songs all around us, with gifts
of chocolates and long stem roses.
A celebration for the arrival of spring, where
new life begins.
Wait a minute! WHAT? SPRING???
This is a celebration of love, life, romance, and
yes, spring, even though this is one of the
coldest months of the year, and clearly a time of
year that is still winter for the Northern
hemisphere. Spring is not far away. Sometime
next month will be the official first day of spring.
Why would we celebrate spring now?
The answer is in the sowing of the seed. As
spring nears, the seed in the ground needs time
to germinate. Seeds need time to rise up from
the ground at a time when spring finally does
arrive.
When writing lyrics, we find a lot of similarities
with varied aspects of our lives. Valentines Day
can be a reminder of how to prepare our lyrics
for a target time frame and maturity.
A little man with a bow and arrow will be flying
about on wings, shooting the unsuspecting
person, and casting love spells.
Like Cupids arrow, our lyric should be on point
and hit the target audience in their hearts. If the
audience loves the lyric or song, they are more
likely to listen to it more frequently or even make
a purchase of the finished product. It is a good
idea to research your target audience to find out
what they like, and align your lyrics to provide
what they want most.
The romantic person will be buying flowers and
filling out cards declaring their emotional
attachment to someone who will be receiving
them. Millions of romantics buying tens of
millions of flowers.

the smiles, and the deep emotions should be
evident on the faces of those listening.
Many children will be born near this date in
November as one of the results of this holiday.
The nine-month wait begins.
You should be targeting a timeframe when the
song appears to have life and is able to stand on
its own. This can be done if you are able to get
significant media play on any platform,
particularly if its radio airplay. This may be hard
to do at first, but giving it a six-month window is
a good starting point, and adjust your future
projects according to how successful you
become with each project you finish.
Gain some fans for the lyric or song. Let some
people review and give feedback to be sure it is
the quality you desire. This is planting seeds.
Let it grow into something that is magnificent.
You do not want to be the one person who
forgot about the holiday and is now pressed to
find flowers and cannot find them because they
are all sold out. Your declaration of romance is
now in the balance.
Lyric writing is a process, and skipping or
omitting any needed steps leaves the process
broken, and less likely to succeed. Not
everyone will have the same processes needed
to have a happy Valentines ending, but finding
your own process is vital. Know your process,
and anticipate the goal date.
Failing to plan your Valentines Day can lead to a
broken heart.
Failing to plan your lyric can lead to a product
that is lacking love.
Plan ahead, and do not get a broken heart.
