Homeless Soldiers Friend
As he laid there on the pavement Say a prayer for these soldiers
All the people walking past him Help them find a better life
Saw him shaking with exhaustion They trained for you
From his lonely nightmare dreams And fought for you
His faithful dog moved closer Saw Brothers lose their lives
Snuggled in to keep him warmer Please help these broken soldiers
Licked his tears Bring them back into the light
And laid his head down Their war fights on inside of them
On his chest to hug him tight Each day and every night
And the soldier's heart felt lighter As the night time darkness closed in
And it lifted up his black fog And the people all moved homewards
And he reached up from his terror To their semi detached houses
And felt brighter and more settled And their heating and their lives
So the dog stayed in his place now So the homeless ailing soldier
Breathing love and hope to his pal Faced another night of hunger
And through all Fear and total devestation
His tortured memories Had become his way of life
Brought the soldier to the light
In a rare and lucid moment
All the people kept on walking He reached deep into his backpack
Moving further from the soldier And he fed his dog a biscuit
Gripping tightly to their childs hands Taking for himself a bite
To keep them far away Then they nestled down together
While the dog laid with his master On the pavement in the weather
Bringing comfort from disaster And they tried their best
Never moving To make it
Lest his master Through another dismal night
Once again cried out in pain
Say a prayer for these soldiers
Then the light rain started falling Help them find a better life
So the dog climbed on his master They trained for you
To afford him some protection And fought for you
From the wetness and the cold Saw Brothers lose their lives
And the soldier stirred beneath him Please help these broken soldiers
Wrapped his arms about his body Bring them back into the light
And the dog looked down Their war fights on inside of them
And licked Each day and every night
Tears and raindrops from his face
