Né à Vence dans le sud de la France, sur les terres de Pablo
Picasso, Fernand Léger, Georges Braque et Henri Matisse, Yvon

Lambert ouvre sa première galerie dans sa ville natale, avant de
poursuivre très vite l’aventure à Paris. En précurseur, il comprend
que la capitale française a cessé d’être l’épicentre du monde de l’art
qu’elle fut durant un siècle, concurrencée par New York, berceau de

la modernité tardive et des nouvelles avant-gardes. Yvon Lambert
multiplie les voyages de l’autre côté de l’Atlantique à la rencontre
des artistes de son temps, dont les nouvelles manières de penser et

de produire de l’art le fascinent. Faisant gure de pionnier, il expose
dans sa galerie parisienne les œuvres radicales des fondateurs de
l’art conceptuel, de l’art minimal et du land art. Très tôt, il fait lui-

même l’acquisition d’œuvres relevant de ces courants artistiques,
et constitue une collection comprenant des œuvres aujourd’hui
considérées comme majeures, réalisées par des artistes comme
les américains Sol LeWitt, Lawrence Weiner, Robert Ryman, Carl

Andre, Richard Serra ou Agnes Martin et les européens Giulio Pao-
lini, Richard Long, Daniel Buren ou Christo et Jeanne-Claude.
Dans les années 1980 et 1990, il pressent le retour à une

peinture plus expressive et historique et expose les travaux de
Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel ou Anselm Kiefer. La pho-
tographie, la vidéo et l’installation dé nissent par la suite des choix
toujours avant-gardistes. S’ensuit un vif intérêt pour les œuvres de

Nan Goldin, Douglas Gordon, Christian Boltanski, Claude Lévêque
et tant d’autres.

Atlantic to meet the artists of his time, whose new ways of thinking

and producing art fascinate him. As a pioneer, he exhibited in his Paris
gallery the radical works of the founders of conceptual art, minimal art
and land art. At an early stage, he himself acquired works from these

artistic trends, and is a collection of works now considered major, by
artists such as the Americans Sol LeWitt, Lawrence Weiner, Robert
Ryman, Carl Andre, Richard Serra or Agnes Martin and Europeans Giulio
Paolini, Richard Long, Daniel Buren or Christo and Jeanne-Claude.

In the 1980s and 1990s, he sensed the return to a more
expressive and historical painting and exposed the works of Jean-
Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel or Anselm Kiefer. Photography, video

and installation then de ne choices that are always avant-garde. Then, RO
followed a strong interest in the works of Nan Goldin, Douglas Gordon, R.P
Christian Boltanski, Claude Lévêque and many others.
