PISCATAWAY, N.J – No. 19 Rutgers field hockey earned its first weekly award from the Big Ten
Conference on Tuesday as Austyn Cuneo was named Big Ten Field Hockey Offensive Player of the
Week. Cuneo played a key role in leading the Scarlet Knights to a 2-0 opening weekend, as the team
defeated No. 24 Maine (3-0) and Ball State (4-1). The Waterford Works, N.J. native paced the team
with three goals and two assists for eight points. Following the first week of action, she holds the
conference lead in points and shares the league lead in goals. She is second in the country in points
per game (4.0) and fifth in the nation in goals per game (1.5).
In the first game of the weekend, Cuneo led the way with two goals and an assist for her fourth
collegiate multi-goal game to lead the Scarlet Knights to a ranked victory over No. 24 Maine. Then
against Ball State, she added another goal and an assist to cap the undefeated weekend. In her
career, the redshirt senior has played in 39 games at Rutgers with 14 goals and nine assists for 37 points.
This is her first career weekly conference award. Named a 2019 Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch, she
was also a Second Team all-region selection in 2017 and Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2018.
