High School Field Hockey Preview
By STEVE GEOGHEGAN
WILTON -- Every year is a different challenge for Wilton High field hockey head coach Deirdre Hynes. Her
highly respected and successful program is coming off a wonderful 2013 campaign in which the Warriors went
21-2, finished as FCIAC runner-up and captured their third consecutive Class M state championship.
Unfortunately, several key players departed via graduation, including All-Area MVP Madison Hendry and
three-year starting goalie Lizette Roman-Johnston. For coach Hynes, it's up to the 2014 Wilton field hockey
team to establish its own identity while building on the successes the program has achieved over the years.
"The main goal is to get the team chemistry going, on and off the field," said Hynes, who is going into her 15th
year at the helm of the program. "Once we get familiar with one another things will start to click."
Coach Hynes knew she was going to get hit hard after losing 15 players to graduation going into this season.
That's why she tried to get some of her JV players time with the varsity and she's hoping that experience will
pay off tenfold in 2014.
