On the Record: An interview with Wilton
High's Megan Cunningham
By George Albano
Thursday, October 16, 2014
Megan Cunningham has a chance to make history this season with the Wilton High School girls field hockey
program. Three years ago, she was the only freshman player pulled up to the varsity for the postseason and was
part of the celebration when the Warriors won the Class M state championship.
As a sophomore, she was a valuable reserve off the bench as Wilton made it back to back state titles. And last
year, she was a junior starter when the Warriors pulled off a Class M three-peat. Now a senior captain and
again a starting forward, Cunningham has a chance to be part of four straight state championship teams,
something not even the best players to have come through the successful WHS field hockey program can lay
claim to.
With an 11-1-1 record (the only loss coming out of state) heading into Thursday's game against Stamford,
Cunningham and her Wilton teammates seemed primed for another postseason run … one they hope ends the
same way as the previous three seasons. But there's more to Megan Cunningham than just field hockey -- a lot
more -- and on the eve of the Stamford game, she went "On the Record" with Associate Sports Editor George
Albano.
