After being held to only one shot on goal
through the first 52 minutes, the Wilton
High field hockey team scored twice in a
span of about two minutes late in the
game to escape with a 2-0 win over
Lauralton Hall, in the Class M state
        semifinals Tuesday night at Fairfield
        Ludlowe High School.

        The top-seeded Warriors (17-3-1-0)
advanced to the state finals for the fourth
straight year, and will go for their fourth
straight Class M title on Saturday when
        face second-seeded Daniel Hand at
Wethersfield High School. Game time is
        yet to be announced.

Bridget Ward broke a scoreless tie with
7:08 left to play, and Katherine
Campbell made it 2-0 with 4:55 left.

It was an exciting game that went up and
down the field, with Lauralton Hall, the
fourth seed, getting most of the good
        scoring chances. Amanda Hendry came
up with three key saves in goal for
Wilton in the second half to keep the
        game scoreless.

had a 7-3 edge in penalty corners and 7-1
edge in shots on goal. “We had tons of opportunities. In field hockey, it’s the team that capitalizes, and (Wilton)
did a great job,” said Lauralton head coach Katie Cavanagh. “I thought it was a great game. It was back and
forth. We certainly had our chances. We just couldn’t finish.”

“I though Lauralton Hall played excellent. From when we saw them in the beginning of September til now,
they’ve improved tremendously. I knew that. Katie’s an excellent coach. We knew they would be out to get us,”
said Wilton head coach Deirdre Hynes, whose team beat Lauralton in the state finals last year, in overtime. “I
knew it would be an evenly match game.”
