setup started by Megan Cunningham.
Westhill forged a 1-1 halftime tie as Cassie
Miolene scored off a pass from Camryn
DeNicolajust 14:55 before intermission.
Wilton displayed its winning pedigree in the
second half -- doing just enough to keep
Westhill at bay. Never underestimate the
value of three consecutive Class M titles and
five FCIAC runner up finishes since 2005-
06.
Wilton again struck early as senior Delaney Baxendale scored her
second goal of the contest just 2:09 into the second half. Cunningham
again started the play on a penalty corner with Kristen Godin feeding a
perfect pass to Baxendale, whose low shot through traffic made it 2-1.
Although all four saves by Wilton's Hendry in the final 30 minutes
were not run of the mill, Westhill wasn't able to put on consistent
pressure over the final 27:51.
"Wilton's depth did show up. I love our starting lineup but we do get
tired," DeAngelo said. "We do tend to play to the level of our
opponents so I was happy and thrilled with the result and the effort
today. We have some sophomores learning on the fly. And we have to
shuffle some people around. But we tied Greenwich and lost by one
goal to Wilton. The girls are waking up to the potential they
have. They are learning how important the little stuff is."
