The other content model that can be used to motivate employees in Company KLM is
Herzberg's view of satisfaction and dissatisfaction. The motivators are the factors of job satis-
faction while the hygiene are the factors of job dissatisfaction. It is said that when these moti-
vators are present in the workplace, the employees tend to be satisfied and motivated. Howev-
er, when they are not present, the employees have no satisfaction at all. Likewise, when hy-
giene factors are present, it results in avoidance of dissatisfaction but not as motivation of
employees.
As stated by Herzberg’s model, the motivators include the achievement, recognition,
work itself, responsibility and advancement. In the situation, these may be the reasons why
some employees are unmotivated in work. The first motivator which is the sense of achieve-
ment greatly impacts the satisfaction and motivation of an employee. The feeling of accom-
plishing something despite difficulties makes an employee motivated. In the situation, maybe
there are employees who don't feel the sense of achievement which makes them unmotivated.
This is also related to recognition which means that employees are valued and recog-
nized for their contributions and accomplishments within the company. It is also significant to
employees that they are acknowledged for their hard work. When it comes to the work itself, it
should be meaningful, interesting and challenging for the employees to perform and get moti-
vated. There are instances where people feel like waking up for another day in work is boring
which makes them unmotivated. This means that the company should create a work environ-
ment that motivates employees every single day. It could be through unique facilities or a posi-
tive and good ambiance in the workplace.
Another motivator to the employees is the responsibility. When employees have a sense
of responsibility on their task, they perform better. However, it is important that managers
should give them ownership of their work. This means that they should let employees work on
their own with minimal control from authority but also retain accountability. In some situa-
tions, there are employees who are given tasks which they lack skill or knowledge and that
leads to lack of responsibility.
