INTRODUCTION
Every Labor Day weekend since 1982, the storied Lime Rock circuit in the lush hills of Northwest Connecticut comes alive with a display of automotive passion unmatched by any other motorsports venue in the US – it is the only event that combines historic racing and a Concours at the same location. The weekend opens with a 17-mile rally through neighboring towns and is then followed by three exciting days of historic racing. In between is Sunday in the Park, which includes both a competitive Concours d’Elegance and the Gathering of the Marques, a vast assembly of car enthusiasts and their rides arranged around the Lime Rock course.
In 2021 Porsche Cars North America generously sponsored Sunday in the Park. It was preceded the night before by a gala dinner hosted by Porsche Danbury where former Porsche racing drivers Brian Redman and Stefan Johansson were interviewed about their experiences. Porsche’s support was also critical in assembling fifteen examples of 911-based RS Porsches from the Steven Harris collection, the first time that these rare and raw sports cars have been assembled in one location. Together with a dedicated 911 class during the racing events, a corral for Porsche owners and hot laps in the battery-fueled Porsche Taycan, it was all a Porsche fan could wish for.
