                  Authorized Implementers / Co-Implementers
                        Nurses and Health Disciplines staff who have  been  trained  in the use of the Automatic External
                         Defibrillator  (AED in the Hospital’s COVID-19  Assessment Centre.

                        In the event  of cardiopulmonary  arrest in a patient, Nurses and Health Discipline staff working
                         in the COVID  AC should call 9-1-1  for Emergency  Medical Services  (EMS) and begin Cardio
                         Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR),  as per the Heart and Stroke Foundation  Basic Life Support
                         (BLS) guidelines.
                        Nurses and Health Discipline staff working  in the COVID  AC will then apply the AED to the
                         chest of cardiopulmonary  arrest patients and follow  the commands issued by the machine.

                  Education and Ongoing Competence Requirements for Authorized Individuals
                        Training  by Advanced  Practice Clinical Educator (APCE) and/or  delegate:
                            o  Current  Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
                            o  Review  of this medial directive
                            o  Review  of the principles of AED use
                            o  Hands on demonstration  and return  demonstration  of  use of an AED

                  Clinical Conditions  Required:
                        Use the AED when a suspected cardiac arrest victim has an apparent  lack of circulation
                         indicated by:
                            o  unconsciousness and,
                            o  absence of normal breathing  and,
                            o  absence of carotid pulse or lack of signs of circulation.
