FROM BURNOUT TO BALANCE: 10 STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TODAY TO HAVE A HAPPIER, MORE FULFILLED CAREER
It’s a tough time to be a physician. The pressures are enormous and they’re not letting up. You likely find yourself expected to do more with fewer resources and in less time. It can feel as if the little control you have over your work life is slipping away, and that there aren’t enough hours in the day.
Like many physicians, you may be lamenting all the demands, and hoping that your workplace will institute better working conditions. I would not hold my breath on this one! And, in addition to all the demands, medical training typically does not provide skills in coping with change, uncertainty, and the emotional duress of being a physician. This combination of physician training, workplace practices, and system-level physician pressures can contribute to a sense of powerlessness.
In short, there are many factors that set us up for burnout.
I created this simple guide to combat these factors. These tips provide physicians like you with easy-to-implement, effective strategies to regain control, happiness, and balance. Best of all, they don’t involve a lot of added time.
