Primary Treatment
Primary Clarification can be enhanced through the controlled use of chemicals
and flocculants, further reducing the organic load to the downstream activated
sludge biomass.
Chemically Enhanced Primary Treatment, or CEPT includes the use of iron salts
like Ferric Chloride and Ferrous Sulfate.
Polymer (a long chain molecular molecule) can also be added to aid in
flocculation and settling speed.
CEPT can help reduce the downstream food to mass ratio and in doing so,
encourage improved activated sludge performance, as well as nutrient removal
potential.
