Biological Nutrient Reduction (BNR)
Biological Nutrient Reduction (commonly known as BNR) is an advanced
approach to wastewater treatment.
Before we discuss Biological Nutrient Reduction, lets first review how Activated
Sludge works.
Activated Sludge removes carbon-based pollution from wastewater.
Carbon-based organisms need an SRT of 2 to 6 days. F/M ratios are typically 1.0
to 0.2.
Carbon based activated sludge will not remove nitrogen or phosphorus.
